CRA medal count: gold, silver, silver

CRA took home some precious metal in the form of Addy Awards from the recent American Advertising Federation – West Virginia annual awards dinner. The award count for CRA at the end of the evening included gold and two silver Addy Awards for work completed in 2009.

The top prize, gold, was awarded to CRA for its production of the “This is Our West Virginia” video. In honor of CRA’s 35th anniversary, we produced this video and presented it to the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce at its annual Business Summit meeting. The video provides a showpiece tool to allow the State of West Virginia and companies in West Virginia to utilize the video for recruiting businesses, employees and investment. View the video.

CRA received a silver award for work completed for the second inauguration of West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin. The Office of the Governor selected CRA to design and produce the collateral materials for the event including the invitation package, the guide book, RSVP card, map, event signage, inaugural program and all printed elements (tags, car magnets, tickets and signage).

The additional silver award went to CRA for the “Bench Guys” television spot for the West Virginia Lottery Hot Lotto game. This spot also won a Batchy award last year at the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) conference. Read more about the NASPL awards.

Tell it like it is

To commemorate and celebrate Black History Month, the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Board unveiled its annual Black History poster. The 24th annual commemorative poster, designed by Charles Ryan Associates, features the fitting theme of “Tell It Like It Is” and showcases seven African American media industry pioneers.

Featuring founders of the Freedom Journal Samuel E. Cornish and John B. Russworm, publisher and suffragette Ida B. Wells, sports writer Sam Lacy, the poster also honors the contributions of Max Robinson, the first African American TV news anchor, Cathy Hughes, owner of Radio One and Dr. Calvin W. Rolark, founder of the Washington Informer.

Since 1986, the D.C. Lottery has produced the Black History poster and recognized the achievements of African Americans in occupations such as entertainment, sports, politics, business and the arts. Each year, 25,000 copies of the poster are published and distributed without charge to schools in Washington, D.C., libraries and the general public.

Beards for kids

Thanks to the overwhelming support from CRA friends, fifteen men with fifteen beards raised nearly $4,500 for CRA’s first-ever No Shave November (NSN) fundraiser for Watts Elementary. CRA used the donation funds to purchase winter coats, the original goal of the fundraiser for Watts Elementary, and expanded the effort to include school supplies since pledges exceeded expectations.

A special thanks to the men who took on the challenge (Matt Isner, Matt Fidler, Scott Castleman, Steve Gray, Thad Smith, Chuck Lilly, Robb Major, Matt Sutton, Chad Engle, Ryan Clark, Bruce Hobart, Mark Tubbs, Vince Harper, Chuck Hirst and John Auge) as well as to each person who pledged. This winter was warmer in more ways than one.

In addition to the NSN donation campaign, CRA has been involved with Watts Elementary through tutoring, teacher appreciation, student-of-the-month lunches, school improvements projects and much more.

If you or your organization would like to assist CRA and give back to Watts Elementary, contact Allison McCarty.
